A walk in the park

So just the other week we found out from some of our friends about this little conservation center here in Lagos. Its not very often you come across places like this here. It was a very well kept and most of all CLEAN (very rare) park that you could walk around on this little board walk and look for animals. And it just so happens to be about 5 mins from Jeff's machine yard. So we had a bit of time one day and decided to go check it out.

It was super nice just to be able to get out and walk around. As we walked further into the little jungle we could hear all this rustling. Just above us were tons of these tiny little monkeys!

They were soo cute! Some of them were probably only the size of my hand. I really want one now! These were actually the first animals, well other then bony cows or goats and diseased chickens or lizards that i have seen here. Lagos is far from your typical African safari looking place. Anyways we watched them swing around for a bit then kept on walking. We saw two big monitor lizards. Hideous looking creatures! And supposedly they're dangerous lizards too.....someone told me that....don't know if its true but it makes the story cooler if they are. We finished our walk and went back to the parking lot and there was a monkey just sitting on the curb. Of course we followed it and tried to get as close a possible. Jeff got a really close, maybe a couple feet away from it. Unfortunately we didn't have any food with us or maybe it would have came closer. Very cool though!!

Anyways I was busy taking pictures of the monkey and Jeff yelled at me to come. I ran to see what he was talking about. I never would have believed it if I didn't see it for myself - these two turtle were fighting....very slowly but still fighting. It was soo funny to watch the group of kids around them chanting "fight, fight, fight!" We didn't get this part on video but finally one of the turtles got loose and took off. The kids all ran after it yelling "scaredy cat" then would run back to the other one and chant, "winner, winner!" Maybe you really had to be there to think it was funny but we were laughing. Its not every day you see something like that happening! Anyways it was a super fun day. Definitely a place we will have to visit again!!

It's too bad that turtle's fighting technics aren't quite as refined as the young boy's. But not all is in vain, Jennica has got the....HIGH AH.....punch, down pat now.
