Well here we are, back to the "beautiful" island of Lagos. Back to the hot humidity. Back to the busy filled streets. Back to the crazy traffic. Back to the most delightful smell of musty, mildewy sewage filled air. Back to slow internet. And back to re-adjusting to a different way of life.
I have to admit that i feel as if i was forced right into re-adjustment this time as the first night we got here the power went off. Therefore no a/c or fan. We tried sleeping in the hot humidity even though we were drenched in sweat. When there is no fan blowing, the air is still which means I get eaten alive by mosquitos without fail. Jeff has not got ONE bite since he has been in Africa. I don't know why they like me soo much. Anyways after we couldn't handle the heat anymore we woke to find our water also wasn't working. So a nice cold bucket shower it was. Although i'll admit i think i am getting pretty good at them and i didn't mind the cold because i was already sweating to death. It really wasn't too bad, just a good reminder that we really are back in Africa. I also was welcomed back a good dose of food poisoning. I usually do expect to spent the first week i get here running to the bathroom but this time was by far the worst. Thank goodness for my wonderful husband that took good care of me!
It was a rough start that's for sure but we actually really are happy to be back. Its easy to complain about all the stuff we are missing and not able to do while being far away but there is also so much we enjoying while being here. Some things i do love about this place:
-LOVE LOVE LOVE the pineapple. I'm afraid Africa has ruined any chance of me liking any pineapple that is not 100% freshly picked.
-Mangos. I had the yummiest mango i have ever had in my life the other day. I hated mangos until i moved here.
-Pretty much all the tropical fruit.
-The local material and finding fun things and the market.
-The sun. I finally can work on getting a tan!!
-Time with my hubby. Jeff and I spend almost every second of every day working together which many people don't get to do.
-Our wonderful ward. They are always soo happy to see us when we get back. I literally think every single person in our ward came and gave me a hug and welcomed me back.
-The nigerian kids. Probably the CUTEST babies in the whole entire world!!
-The every day adventures!!
I really could list a ton more. The more time i spend here in west Africa the more i learn to love the people, their culture and everything else about it. I really am soo grateful for the opportunity we have had being able to have this adventure even if it does come with all the little trials. I have learned to be grateful for soo much more and have had my eyes open to soo many blessings i have taken for granted. So all in all i am very happy to be back!!

um...can I come visit you one day? thanks.
I love blog stalking you. I must admit it. You are a trooper Kelsey, but what an adventure, I must say I am a little jealous.
So I found your blog! :) And I have been to that orphanage. I recognize the red and white checkered floor and one of the little boys! Were they dancing to MTV? They are such cute little dancers from the time they are born I swear.
Wow Kels I feel both envious and sorry for you at the same time! I wish Melv and I could have done a cool adventure like that before having a kid. The stories you will have to tell your children...the bad news bandits will sound like peanuts compared to your stories in Africa! Welp we sure do miss ya around here.
Kels! I loved this! I still can't imagine anyone but you doing this!...So I do think you are quite amazing!
